The National Service Scheme is a flagship youth movement launched by the Government of India in 1969 during the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi. Guided by the inspiring motto “Not Me, But You,” NSS nurtures socially committed, responsible, and compassionate citizens through the spirit of voluntary community service and nation-building. Rooted in the philosophy of Education through Service, NSS empowers student youth to transform learning into meaningful social action.
The National Service Scheme functions under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, as a Central Sector Scheme engaging Plus Two students, technical institution students, and undergraduate & postgraduate students across the country.
